Five Lessons from Five Years of Kama Health

Today marks five years since I opened the doors to Kama Health - a milestone that feels both surreal and satisfying.

When I think back to where it began - juggling study, work, motherhood, and my own recovery from burnout - I couldn’t have imagined the evolution that would follow. What started as a small wellness space in the Adelaide Hills has become a sanctuary for (mostly) women who give so much of themselves that they forget to refill their own cup.

These five years have been filled with transformation - for my clients, and for me. Below are five lessons that have shaped the way I live and support others.

1. Healing moves in seasons, not timelines.

There is no straight line to recovery. Some seasons call for deep rest; others invite growth and action. Learning to recognise the natural ebb and flow - and to honour both - has been the key to sustainable wellbeing.

When clients stop expecting constant “progress” and instead embrace these rhythms, they begin to experience genuine transformation rather than temporary change. Integration is the key.

2. Your body whispers before it shouts.

Burnout rarely arrives overnight. The body always speaks first - through fatigue, irritability, headaches, or that quiet sense of disconnection. Ignoring these whispers is what leads to the shout. Listening early, with curiosity rather than judgement, is one of the most empowering acts of self-care we can learn. When I studied and started practicing the BodyMind Method in 2021, this all came together for me as the missing piece.

Throughout this past 5 years I have navigated (and learnt from) many of my own personal health challenges including severe injuries, and carer burnout after the diagnosis of my daughter's Type 1 diabetes. I am so grateful for the knowledge and skills I have, and the amazing friends and practitioners I have around me to keep me on track in my own healing journey.

3. Boundaries are medicine.

For so many of us (especially those in helping professions), saying no feels uncomfortable. But boundaries are not barriers - they are energetic medicine. They protect your ability to serve from a place of fullness rather than depletion. Every time I’ve helped a client strengthen their boundaries, I’ve watched their health, relationships, and creativity flourish.

4. You can’t give from depletion - but you can give from overflow.

For years, I believed the more I gave, the more I was helping. Now I know that constant giving without replenishment isn’t generosity - it’s self-abandonment.

Healing is not about doing less; it’s about giving from a nourished, grounded state. When your cup is full, giving and serving feels joyful again.

5. Slowing down creates clarity.

Whether in business, healing, or daily life - slowing down isn’t a setback. It’s an opening.

Every major shift in my practice, from introducing energy work and coaching, to developing The Energy Evolution Framework™, came from moments of stillness and listening. The body knows the way, but it speaks softly. We just need to get quiet enough to hear it. Stillness is difficult for many people, but it is where the magic truly begins.

Starting a business in 2020...!

The past five years have been as challenging as they’ve been rewarding navigating uncertainty, self-doubt, constant change, and the steep learning curve of running a business while holding space for others’ healing has stretched me in ways I never could have imagined.

Looking ahead - an evolving chapter

As I look back, one thing has become clear - the majority of people who have found their way to my work over the years have been those in the helping professions. Practitioners, carers, social workers, health workers, and space-holders of all kinds - people who give deeply, often at the cost of their own wellbeing.

Through my own journey and in supporting others, I’ve witnessed just how powerful natural medicine can be in restoring balance after burnout. The herbs, nutrients, and energetic remedies we so often recommend to others can become the very tools that guide us back to our own vitality.

This realisation has shaped the quiet evolution now unfolding within my practice. I feel called to support those working within natural medicine and holistic health - the practitioners and healers who hold space for others, yet need support in replenishing their own energy and reconnecting with their purpose.

As I continue my studies to become a qualified herbalist, this next chapter feels like a natural progression - blending science, nature, and energy to help those who help others. It’s not a reinvention, but a deeper return to the roots of why I began this work in the first place.
